Local Content Development - International Experience and Best Practices

Organised by the Kazakh National Committee for the WPC, the first WPC Expert Workshop on “Local Content Development - International Experience and Best Practices” took place on October 7th, 2013 at the Independence Palace in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan.

This meeting was arranged by the Kazakhstan National Committee in cooperation with the WPC Secretariat in order to share experience and promote cooperation between WPC members. The outcomes of the event will be presented in a Special Session at the 21st World Petroleum Congress in 2014.

Local content issues are extremely important for further development of the petroleum industry worldwide and have special importance for Kazakhstan. The country is now actively implementing "Forced Industrialization Program". The development of the manufacturing sector in various industries is one of the ways to diversify the economy, to create and develop competitive and export-oriented industries.

The Round Table focused on the analysis of international practice of local content development, learning best practices, as well as discussing the ways to increase effectiveness of local content development, introduction of innovative technologies in the oil and gas sector.
