Shamus Hardie is the current Canadian Representative and Chair of WPC Energy’s Young Professionals Committee. He has been involved with WPC Energy since 2020 working on multiple international team projects, which have included leading the publication of four WPC Young Professional Magazines, contributing to Congress programming, and organising young professional events at the local level. Shamus has also been fortunate to support and attend two WPC Energy Congresses, with his first being at the 23rd Congress in Houston in 2021 and second in his hometown Calgary for the 24th Congress in 2023.
Shamus holds an undergraduate degree with honors in Applied Energy Economics and a Master’s in Public Policy, where he specialized in Energy and Environmental Policy. He has over 10 years of experience in the energy sector, previously working in the upstream energy regulatory space that oversees the responsible and efficient development of hydrocarbons in the province of Alberta. He has more recently moved downstream and is now involved in petrochemicals, analyzing markets and covering the full value chain from raw feedstocks to finished plastic products.
Over his upcoming tenure as YPC Chair, Shamus is committed to advocating for the voices of young professionals and sustainability issues in the global energy industry, expanding inclusivity of international members and their perspectives, and enhancing WPC Energy’s core projects and programming.
