On 10 October, as part of the preparations for the 26th WPC Energy Congress in 2028 in Astana, the Kazakhstan National Committee of WPC Energy, represented by the KAZENERGY Association, organised a working visit to Astana for Mr. Pedro Miras, President of WPC Energy.
During the visit, Mr. Miras met with Mr. Olzhas Bektenov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, and toured the infrastructure of the EXPO International Exhibition Centre, which is planned to host the main events of the Congress-2028.
In talks with the Prime Minister, organisational and substantive issues regarding the preparations for the 26th WPC Energy Congress in Astana were discussed. Mr. Bektenov emphasised that Kazakhstan will be the first country in Central Asia to host this key global industry event and assured the Government of Kazakhstan’s full support for the “Energy Olympics” in the country.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that hosting the WPC Energy Congress in Astana in 2028 will enhance the country’s political and image standing, bolster Kazakhstans position on the global stage, and create a multiplier effect on the development of services, business tourism, and infrastructure in the capital.
Mr. Pedro Miras, in turn, updated the Prime Minister on WPC Energy's revised Development Strategy, praised the activity and high standing of Kazakhstan’s National Committee within this prestigious organisation, and expressed confidence in the successful organisation of the Congress-2028.
Additionally, in an informal meeting, Mr. Jambulat Sarsenov, Vice President of WPC Energy, and Mr. Magzum Mirzagaliev, Chairman of KAZENERGY, discussed with Mr. Miras potential areas of cooperation, knowledge exchange, and mechanisms for ensuring continuity for future Congress organisers, using the example of the upcoming 25th WPC Energy Congress in Saudi Arabia in 2026.
Concluding the visit, Mr. Pedro Miras underscored the strong potential of Kazakhstan’s capital to host world-class events and noted that the infrastructure of the International EXPO Centre meets all WPC Energy’s requirements for the Congress in 2028.
