2014: the Legacy from the 21st WPC, Russia

In 2014 Russia hosted the 21st World Petroleum Congress in Moscow. Under the theme of 'Responsibly Energising a Growing World' all aspects of the Oil & Gas Industry were covered including the upstream and downstream sectors, natural gas and renewables as well as sustainable management of the industry.

The 50.000m2 World Petroleum Exhibition accompanying the Congress broke a new record, with 30% more space than the previous Congress in Doha.  It attracted 16,788 visitors to the stands representing 542 Exhibiting Companies.

The Congress brought together more than 10 000 attendees from 119 countries around the world. Moreover, about 700 students, PhD researchers and young professionals of the energy sector had the opportunity to be a part of such a global event.

Taking into account the importance of involving young people in the industry and managing the increasing talent gap, the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council has established the 'Golden Legacy of WPC' Scholarship, which is aimed at identifying the most talented and successful students all over Russia.  The establishment of this scholarship is the fulfillment of the 21st World Petroleum Congress Organising Committee obligations on the use of the Legacy for charity.
